The Missouri Compromise
Before the Compromise, tension was forming between the North and the South. An uproar rose when Missouri requested to be a slave state in 1819. It threatened to unbalance the fragile peace and harmony between the North and South. To keep the peace, congress made a deal. They let Missouri becaome part of the Confederate, but Maine would have to become a free state. The ammemdment also made an imaginary line across the former Louisiana Territory, making a boundary between the slcae and free states. (Seen up in the picuture.)
