The Cotton Gin
The cotton gin was created by Eli Whitney in 1793 so that slaves would be able to clean the cotton seeds faster, and get more work done. It was invented when Whitney went to go visit a friend, It is a system of rollers, teeth, and, brushes that cleaned cotton. (as seen in the picture above) There was a big effect on slavery, due to Eli Whitney's cotton gin. The number of slaves in the United States rose up from about 7000, 000 in 1790, to around 3.2 million in 1850!!
The Railroads
Railroads were made to increase the speed of transportation of people and goods. This was important for Georgia, because they needed to cotton from the interior of Georgia to Savannah's port to be traded. Georgia's most important, or main railroad company was the Western and Atlantic Railroad.
