University of Georgia
The University of Georgia has a very long history here. It was the very first land grant school in the United States! It was created, or given by Abraham Baldwin. He believed it was the governments duty to give everyone a chance to have an education. It was the first school to open to lower income/ poorer students and the first public university in the nation. It has 40, 00 acres!! It was chartered by the Georgia General Assembly on January 27, 1785. The University of Georgia is the oldest Franklin University. The first board meeting of trustees made Abraham Baldwin the president of the new University. But the University was actually established in 1801, when a committee of a board of trustees chose a land site.
