How GA Contributed to the War
85,000-100,000 Georgians joined the war forces during WW1. About 3,000 Georgian soldiers died in battle. Camp Benning located in Columbus, was a place that trained Georgia armies. A German U-Boat crew was captured and imprisoned at Fort McPherson that was in Georgia! Many women, not just in Georgia worked in factories, sold liberty bonds, grew victory gardens. Victory gardens were gardens planted at home that supplied food to the armies that were out fighting. Railroads also helped transport troops and supplies to needed area.
