The Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam was the bloddiest one day battle in history. On September, the North and the South had their first major battle. It was so bad, that it was the bloodiest battle in American history. It was the first major battle in the Civil war, and also the first battle to be fought on Southern soil. The generals were General Rober E. Lee, and General George McClellan. It took place on September 16-18, 1862. In the morning, the Confederate army assulted the Union and counterattacks went through Miller's Cornfield. Later the Union assulted the Confederate at Sunken Road, and pierced the Confederate after a horrible struggle to survive. And although McClellan failed to defeat General Robert E. Lee's army, it called to Lincoln to creat the Emancipation Proclamation.
