The Paleo Indians
The Paleo Indians, also known as the Clovis People were one of the first people to inhabit America. They appeared from Asia North America after the last Ice Age. They inhabited the Southwestern U.S. and Northern Mexico for about 10,000-40,000 years. Even they were longer than other cultures, not much record was found about how they lived. But archaeologists have made conclusions about how they lived. They think that Paleo Indians were nomadic people and hunters/gathers. They moved in order to find food and provide what the village needed for everyone. The food they depended on was caribou, bison, and mammoths. They moved in groups of about 20-50 people. They are famous for the spear they invented called the atlatl. The atlatl was a spear holder that made it possible to throw the spear farther and with more accuracy, than with just an arm of a human. (Shown in the picture above.) The archaeologists divided the Paleo period into 3 groups: Early, Middle, and Late. The early period was between 11000 B.C.-9000 B.C. The Middle Paleo was between 9000 B.C.-8500 B.C. The Late Paleo Period was between 8500 B.C.-8000 B.C. They were categorized by the certain Clovis points that were found.
