Gold was found by a farmer named Benjamin parks in the land that belonged to the Cherokee in the summertime in the year of 1829. The gold found in Dahlonega was the death sentence for them. Soon after the news that gold was found in Dahlonega, gold fever swept through the Northern Georgia Mountain region. The Georgia legislature passed a law to put Cherokee land under state control.
