The G.I Bill
This law is to help returning soldiers adapt to civilian life---low cost loans for homes or businesses and College education opportunities. It was officially in the Serviceman's Readjustment Act of 1914. It was able to create hospitals, made low-interest mortgages available and granted stipends covering tuition for veterans attending college. From 1944-1949, nearly 9 million veterans received almost $4 billion from the bill's unemployment compensation.
