The Election of 1860
This election was the last straw for the South. Talk of secsssion was already spreading like a wildfire. They threatened the North that if Lincoln won, then the South would form their own country. When the election came, there were 4 candidates running for president. Abraham had only 40% of the popular vote, and 180 of the electoral colledge. This was just enough for Lincoln the narrowly win the election. This was the only time in history that a President won with 0 votes from the South. Snd after a few weeks of the election, South Carolina was the first state to seceed from the North. Georgia seceeded on January 29, 1861.
